Introduction

Buckinghamshire 'Dining Pub of the Year' in the GOOD PUB GUIDE 2012 published on 06/10/11...... Hurrah!

Drive ¼ of a mile up the hill out of Marlow and you will come across our little, old, whitewashed pub in the village of Bovingdon Green. Pull onto the car park and you will begin to get a feel of what awaits inside. Sprawling gardens, a petanque piste, fragrant kitchen herbs and a sunny terrace speak volumes about how well loved and well looked after this place is. Keep an eye out for the glorious Red Kites, which were re-introduced to the Chilterns back in 1989 and now regularly soar over the pub.

Inside is, at once, both spacious and cosy. You'll find a snug with wood burning stove, a rosy red dining room and glowing dark floorboards. Rich fabrics and heritage colours create a warm background for the characters that inhabit the pub: friendly, bubbly and professional staff; the early evening regulars gathered around the Telegraph crossword or a game of cards and all manner of folk from far and wide. Easy considering we are less than 15 minutes from both the M4 and M40 and 3 minutes from the hustle and bustle of central Marlow, with it's fabulous shopping.

Our imaginative British food is consistently a big draw. We use fresh, seasonal and local produce, wherever possible and strongly believe in good food ethics, such as reducing food miles and choosing new and interesting fish from sustainable sources. That might sound a little serious, but we're really a very relaxed and informal bunch. Happy to rustle you up a snack or offer some serious gastronomy, we have something to suit everyone and with free WiFi on site, business lunches were never so relaxed!

The Royal Oak serves everything from great local beer (Rebellion Brewery in Marlow Bottom) to pudding wines, with lots of choice in between. So if you're looking for grown-up time to yourselves, the chance to loose your kids in our garden or sustenance after a long walk with the dog, a warm welcome awaits.
